Agricultural Innovation
To ensure access to a sufficient supply of healthy, diverse, and safe food and supplies for a growing global population, while limiting the impact on the environment and coping with climate change, the SouthEast Innovation Institute (SEII) is taking the initiative to launch our new Agricultural Innovation Center. As one of the key challenges of this century, innovation in global agriculture is a central part of the solution.
Short-term market challenges from COVID-19 has put the agricultural input market on an expected trajectory to grow on average 3% annually over the next decade. Driven by mega-trends in population growth, demand for protein and pressures on harvests from climate change, SEII will lead innovation efforts to partner and collaborate with world class leaders. With the global middle class reaching almost 5 billion people by 2030, the share of the global middle class will have almost quintupled over the past three decades. The rise in living standards and changing attitudes towards nutrition, transparency, and sustainability will further influence food consumption patterns becoming more diverse and demanding.
Securing a sufficient supply of quality food is just one effort initiative. Innovation across agriculture will continue to grow and SEII is at the forefront of meeting these growing demands by using natural resources more efficiently and responsibly.
